You know we love a good food tour and comparison! We've been feeling for a good plate of cracked conch lately and took to the streets to see who has the best battered and fried delicacy.
Done right, cracked conch could literally change your life
And we heard that some small, underrated kitchens and restaurants in New Providence boast of the best cracked conch! We wanted to put that theory to the test so we went divin' for conch!!!
Our journey took us to the popular Debbie's Takeaway on Vesey Street. We then we took a hop, skip and jump and went to Ms. Rolle's on East Street. We ended the day at The Blue Hole at Potter's Cay Dock!!!
Here's how they stacked up!
Debbie's Takeaway - The conch was super tender and well seasoned. Most times conch is stalling but this dish was easy to eat and filling! They give you loads of conch with your meal and don't skimp at all. The fries are great too! There's really nothing bad to say here. We love Debbie's conch! Ms. Rolle's on East Street - A different kind of cracked conch for us. This seems to be prepared in an old fashioned way, where it's heavily breaded and reminds us of conch fritters instead. The taste was pretty good, but average, we'd say. It seems the conch was straight out of the freezer and not as fresh as we'd like. The Blue Hole at Potter's Cay Dock - We literally watched him pull the conch out of the sea! That's the kind of fresh we were going for! We could literally still taste the salt water on it when we ate! However, the downside to being so fresh is that we wish it had more time to marinate in the seasoning for that real Bahamian flair! But this conch was really tender and refreshing and we had homemade, hand cut fries!
